You’re engaged! Congratulations. Now you want to share the news with your friends and family, and have some beautiful photos that will remind you of this wonderful chapter of your life. Engagement photos are a wonderful option that every soon-to-be-wed couple should consider doing. Not only do the photos make for great save-the-date cards, but also they are mementos that you and your significant other can have for the rest of your life. Here are a few tips and tidbits about engagement sessions that we think are helpful:
Reasons to have engagement photos taken:
>Finding a great engagement photo photographer can mean great things for your wedding day photos. Chances are you’ll use the same photographer on the Big Day, and since you’ve already met and spent time working together, you will be a lot more comfortable with each other. You and the photographer already know your vision for your wedding, and you as a couple.
> Engagement shoots are a great way to show off you and your partner as a couple. Great shots exude tons of personality and help set the scene for your upcoming wedding
Ok, I'm sold. What should I know ahead of time?
>Clothing: Wear clothing that you feel comfortable in, that expresses your personality, and works well on camera. It is a good idea to bring an extra outfit or two as well. The clothing should also reflect the weather if you are doing a shoot outdoors, so keep temperature in mind!
>Location: Talk to your photographer about picking a great location. The backdrop of these photographs is the second most important part of the photo, besides you and your spouse-to-be! Do you as a couple have a special place you like to spend time? Did he/she propose in a certain location? Do you want to show off your beloved city, or country home? The location of your engagement session should be a place you love. If you have no preference, talk to your photographer – they will have suggestions.
>Time: The shoot itself is usually about 1-3 hours, though it can vary. Lighting is best outdoors in the early morning and at sunset, which is when most photographers prefer to shoot.
> Photo Availability: Photographs are usually ready in 1-2 weeks, but ask your photographer about specifics. If you want these images ready for invitations or the like, make sure to get them done in time
> Price: Price varies depending on the photographer, location, and time. In general, it ranges from around $200-500 dollars.
**Remember to relax, have fun, and celebrate your engagement! You will cherish these photographs for the rest of your life!
