To Go or Not to Go: The 3 Most Important Things to Consider Before Choosing a Destination Wedding
With summer over and the knowledge that the days are only getting shorter and colder, the idea of escaping to a foreign locale sounds pretty much perfect. Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular among couples, for good reason. After all, what souneddids better than celebrating a marriage with your closest family and friends, and a beautiful backdrop? While we love a destination wedding, we also know that they can be trickier to plan than a local one. A destination wedding might be perfect for you if…
If you want a smaller, more intimate wedding: Most destination weddings have a smaller number of people in attendance. This is purely because of logistical and monetary reasons. It is generally a lot more expensive and time consuming for your guests to travel to a foreign place to attend your wedding. If you would prefer to tie the knot with only a select few people their, then consider a destination wedding as a valid option.
If you don’t mind your friends and family hanging around: Most couples who get married out of the country do it in the same place they are planning on honeymooning. This is a logical and great idea, however keep in mind that you might not be the only ones there. Since your guests made the trek to your destination wedding, chances are they’ll stick around for a few days. This doesn’t mean that you and your newlywed won’t get any alone time, but chances are you will have to do a little more hosting.
If you don’t mind a challenge: Destination weddings can be undoubtedly beautiful and well done. However, they do tend to involve more work since you are planning an event in a foreign location. Often times you won’t see the location or the set up until you have arrived for your actual ceremony. You will have to make phone calls and purchase items online and by phone and not necessarily in person, which can be intimidating. Remember that marriage licenses can get tricky too, depending on where your destination is. If you’re unintimidating by this and are okay with a bit of the unexpected coming your way, then keep on considering it!
