7 Steps for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress
One of the most fun choices you’ll make as a bride-to-be will be choosing your wedding dress. Some of you might know exactly what you’ll wear – be it your mother’s dress, or a number you’ve had your eyes on forever. However, most of you won’t have any options set in stone, and that’s great too! To make sure you get the most out of your dress search, here are some tips to keep in mind:
1. Know when and where you are getting hitched
If you know the season and location of your wedding first, it’ll help the process immensely. A summer wedding by the beach? You now have narrowed down your choices by quite a few.
2. Know your budget
This may seem obvious, but it is important that you have a figure in mind and keep to it. Don’t tempt yourself by checking out boutiques or brands that are out of your budget. There are so many gorgeous gowns out there, that these days you’ll find something stunning no matter what you have to spend. Also remember that sticker shock is real, but it is one of the most – if not the most – important outfit you’ll wear in your entire life!
3. Shop with a trusty few
Wedding dress shopping is an event, so don’t do it alone – but also don’t overdo it with friends and family. Too many people means too many opinions that might distract you from choosing a dress that you really want. Your mom, stylish friend, sister and maid of honor are generally a good team.
4. Plan ahead
Most bridal boutiques require shopping appointments, so call ahead and set one up. Not only will this allow you to have enough time when you do shop, but the store will also be able to let you know about future trunk shows and events at the stores. Also realize that most brides start shopping 9 months to a year before the wedding, to leave time for multiple fittings and dress ordering. Don’t wait!
5. Flatter your figure
All eyes will be on you, so make sure you pick a dress that reflects your personality, but also makes you look your best. Considering the amount of styles out there (mermaid, column, princess, etc) you’ll be able to find one that works perfectly for your body.
6. Take your time
Don’t go overboard, but also realize that you will likely have to try on several dresses before finding the perfect one. Have your friends bring their cameras so they can take photos of you in each one, and write down the ones you really like (often, wedding store associates will do this for you).
7. Trust your gut
It really is true that when you try on the dress that is The Dress, you’ll know!
