How to Pick your Bridesmaids
Congratulations, you’re engaged! Now time to plan the wedding you’ve always dreamed of having. In addition to all the choices on flowers, food, venue and date you’ll be making, you also need to make a decision on whom to make your bridesmaids. This task can be a no-brainer for some, but for most people it can get tricky. Here are some things to keep in mind as you choose whom to have in your bridal party!
Numbers: Most brides choose about 4 or 5 bridesmaids for their wedding. While there is no ‘right’ number, it is important to consider the logistics. For example, if you plan on marrying in a small chapel, will more than 5 bridesmaids fit up at the alter with the groomsmen as well? It is a good idea to loosely base the number of bridesmaids in your wedding party off of the size of your venue and guest list – the bigger the place, the more bridesmaids. However, if you know you want 8, then go for 8! Just 3? That’s fine too!
Obligations: You might be feeling a lot of pressure from your mom, your cousin, your college roommate, etc. to pick certain people to include in your bridal party. Remember: this is your big day. If it works out that you were in your friend Sally’s wedding and would love to have her in yours, then that’s great. If you’d rather have others in it, that’s okay too. Don’t stress if your bridal party doesn’t appeal to everyone. In this case it really is not about their wishes as much as your own.
Friendship: The bottom line when choosing your bridesmaids is to keep it simple – pick the people in your life who mean the world to you, who love you as much as you love them, and who you cannot imagine not being up there with you while you say your vows. If you choose the bridesmaids you truly want, it will make the whole planning process so much easier and smoother. You’ll have an amazing support system right at your fingertips!
